The students came from China and some parents participated and enjoyed the program. The students learned not only Drone technologies and operational skills from University of Toronto instructors, but also English writing, oral presentation, and public speaking skills taught by a well-known University of Toronto English professor. We learned from world well-known Canadian Scientists and Professors about the trend of new technologies of Robotics, Drones, Automation, 3D VR/AR, Artificial Intelligence, and their applications in medicine, health care, construction, transportation, space, and even our day-to-day life, etc.

While living on University of Toronto campus, they learned the campus life by their first-hand experience. They visited world famous UofT Roberts and other libraries, Hart House, the office buildings of several Nobel Prize Winners, the new Robotics laboratory, and Student Drone Club, etc. The student also took the opportunities to visit several Canadian top universities such as Queen’s University, Royal Military College, Carleton University, McGill, and McMaster University, etc. They also learned rich Canadian culture by visiting the Parliament Hill and General Governor’s House in Ottawa, the Thousand Island in Kingston, The world famous Niagara Falls, CN Tower, and The Royal Ontario Museum, Lake of Ontario, etc. Each day students tasted different cuisines from different culture and experienced the typical and unique Canadian multicultural society. While the graduation ceremony was held in the City Hall of Markham, they had a rare opportunity to visit the Debate Chamber and play roles of Mayor and Councilors, etc. for making decisions for the municipal politics. The most important for the students is the fun they had from learning different knowledge, skills, abilities, culture, participating indoor and outdoor activities everyday, and interacting with many Canadians. Congratulations on your success in learning all during the training program and wish you all the best…Come back again!

Category : Camp

March-May 2018

2018 UofT Spring Training Camp for Canadian Qualification Competition

In order to help students to prepare for the 2nd International Youth Drone Tournament, iDAY, University of Toronto and Canada International Education Group hosted the training program which was conducted at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) by graduate students from Centre for Aerial Robotics Research and Education (CARRE).

The instructors, who since their first year of undergraduate studies in University of Toronto Engineering Science, had been involved with the University of Toronto Aerospace Team where they had been designing and flying aircraft and unmanned aerial systems (UAVs, drones) for numerous Canadian and international competitions, guided the students.

Over the short 8 sessions, the students learned drone operational skills through simulation base training and hands on practice. They also learned the structure of drones and knowledge of drone assembly by taking a drone apart and put it back together and fly.

All students have opportunity to visit University of toronto Centre for Aerial Robotics Research and Education (CARRE) lab which is one of the most professional drone lab in Canada.

After the training and practice, most of them had very good operational skills and were ready for the Canadian qualification competition. Congratulations and good luck…
